God’s Glory in Physics
Scripture Focus:
“God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.”
— 1 John 1:5 (NIV)
Devotional Thought
Light. The first word ever spoken into the void.
Before form, before life, before movement — God said, “Let there be light.”
And the universe obeyed.
Physics tells us that light is both a wave and a particle — a mystery of dual nature. It moves at a constant speed, unbound by time as we know it. In one sense, it reveals everything; in another, it cannot be fully grasped.
Sound familiar?
That’s because the nature of light is the nature of its Creator — revealing yet incomprehensible, near yet infinite.
Light as God’s Signature
Every beam that travels through the cosmos carries the echo of that first divine command. The same light that streams through stained glass on a Sunday morning once traveled across galaxies. And every time it breaks through darkness, it retells the story of Genesis 1.
Science calls it electromagnetic radiation. Scripture calls it glory.
Light reveals truth — physically, spiritually, eternally. Without it, we see nothing. Without God, we understand nothing.
The Word That Illuminates
John didn’t say God has light — he said God is light.
It’s not something He projects; it’s something He is.
When Jesus declared, “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12), He wasn’t speaking metaphorically. He was revealing the very language of creation — the Word through whom all things were made now walking among them.
Every miracle He performed, every word He spoke, was light refracted into human experience.
The Physics of Faith
The deeper we look into creation, the more clearly we see design.
Light doesn’t just travel — it testifies. It obeys fixed laws, constant and dependable, reminding us that God is not a God of chaos but of order.
Even darkness is only the absence of light, not its equal. That’s true in science, and it’s true in the soul.
When life feels dark, it’s not because the light is gone — it’s because something has blocked our view.
Reflection Questions – The Language of Light
- Where do I see the “language of light” speaking in my life right now?
- How can I let the light of Christ reveal hidden areas of my heart that need truth?
- When I study creation — stars, sunlight, or science — do I pause to worship the Creator behind it all?
Prayer
Lord, You spoke light into existence, and it still speaks today.
Help me to see Your fingerprints in creation — in physics, in beauty, in truth.
When I face darkness, remind me that Your light never leaves; it only waits to be revealed.
Illuminate my heart with Your presence and teach me to reflect Your glory.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
