Scripture
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
— Exodus 14:14
Reflection
Stillness is often misunderstood as passivity. In Scripture, it is trust in motionless form.
Israel stood before the sea with no visible path forward. Fear urged movement, panic, reaction. Yet God invited them into something deeper: stillness rooted in confidence that He was already acting.
We too feel pressure to fix, manage, or resolve what feels uncertain. But spiritual strength is not always expressed in effort. Sometimes it is expressed in restraint — the willingness to remain present while God moves beyond our sight.
Stillness does not mean nothing is happening. It means God is working in ways we cannot yet see.
Prayer
Lord, teach me the strength of stillness.
When I feel urgency or fear, anchor me in trust that You are already at work.
Help me rest in Your faithfulness.
Amen.
Reflection Questions
• Where do I feel pressure to act quickly?
• What might still trust look like here?
• Can I release control into God’s care today?
